Sponsored by TWIST - Tablet Weavers International Studies & Techniques

Dear Peter,

I have been so wrapped up in working on this ply-splitting grant that I feel tablet weaving is almost in my past! Maybe I will get motivated to weave something in time for the TWIST exhibition at Convergence.

I made my presentation on the grant to the Portland Handweavers Guild last Thursday, which included a PowerPoint presentation. John gave me about four minutes of instruction, and then I created digital slides with text. Very basic. But I really enjoyed using it. It's so easy compared to putting together a slide show the "old-fashioned" way. For this presentation, I was able to just lay my samples on the scanner, and scan all the images, then crop as desired. There is a slide sorter function, and you can see all of the slides on the monitor and move them around as desired.

Good to hear about the new finds of TW curtains in Ethiopia.

Ladella gave me a copy of your article on the Bowlor Hat... I am looking forward to reading it.

We planted trees this weekend in our median strip -- a scarlet oak and a ginko.

Yesterday I rode my bike about 10 miles round trip, which is the furthest I've gone so far, to a workshop of a group called Food Not Lawns. Why does it seem uphill in both directions?

I had a call today from Carla Gladstone, a tablet weaver from Maryland who was raised in England. She is planning a trip there in April (her first visit back in 30 years), and will be visiting one of her college professors in Colchester. She wants to visit you --- but said she had heard you were "crotchety and shy", and so she was afraid to ask. I hope you are smiling as you read this! I suggested that she go ahead and e-mail you, so you may hear from her.

Sorry to hear about your shoulder. Are you planning to have surgery?

Tonight I'm going to the permaculture guild meeting to hear about composting toilets -- a favorite topic of discussion among permies.

my best always,
Linda
