That doesn't seem to be exactly true, I can find aquatic(s) centre in
London, Manchester, Liverpool and Sunderland (amongst others), and all
of them offer swimming, not dolphins :)

The problem is that marketeers invent names for stuff all the time. An aquatic centre is not a swimming pool in non-marketing English.
