Hello 2011/7/26 Ted Rolle Jr. <[email protected]>
> EFF is a great idea! I'll check it out ... tomorrow. > > I don't know whether this is true, but are banks liable for storing illegal > funds? > > Yes and no. It depends on the country. Normally it's a bit foggy. Benks are not liable as long as they don't know and hav nor reason to belive in good faith that the funds are illegal. As soon as they know they are liable of "washing money" (I don't know the right term in english). Different businesses are threated differently: Generally I think it's like that: If the business is owned by the state in many countries (like phone network and postal service) they are not liable. If the business is privately run (like ISPs, Hosting companies and such) they are held liable for the stuff the users are doing. A lot of that stuff has also come together with the ridiculous laws surrounding copyright and IP (why is it even called "copyright" if I'm generally not allowed to copy anyting!?)... best regards Marco
