Personally I think the secondary reasons (1-3) are enough for merging this, so I've done it. I've tested all my systems with Intel graphics hardware, and none exhibits the memory wipe issue reported in #6460 *without* this fix. Hence I leave the ticket open until we have more confirmations that it actually fixes the issue.
