Hello Tails Support -- first post:
I found some good instructions for installing Canon PIXMA iP4700 printer drivers in Ubuntu
(reproduced below with the steps numbered) and I thought they would work for Tails. With
the help of a couple of folks on Reddit (/r/tails) I was able to install the printer drivers, and
was able to print a test page successfully.
But the next time I booted up Tails, that printer was nowhere to be found. Evidently it does
not persist, even though I did check "printer settings" when setting up persistence. I installed
the printer again, and again could print a test page, but it was gone again the next time I
booted into Tails. Maybe this method would work in Ubuntu, but not in Tails because I
needed to wave the persistence wand over the installation. Can you tell me how to make my
printer definition survive a reboot? Or, if that isn't possible, can these drivers be put in the
next release of Tails?

Althoug the Canon PIXMA iP4700 is not supported natively on Ubuntu (10.04), it's
surprisingly easy to get it to work using Canon their own Linux drivers...
Just follow these steps:
(2) Extract the resulting iP4700_debian_driver_pack.tgz.
(3) Extract the cnijfilter-ip4700series-3.20-1-i386-deb.tar.gz that is inside.
(4) Simply install the .deb files in cnijfilter-ip4700series-3.20-1-i386-deb/packages/ using
dpkg -i. I did not use the install.sh script as I want to use the Ubuntu administration system
to set up the printer. [I had to get help using the sudo su command here - BS]
(5) Go to System > Administration > Printing in the Ubuntu menu.
(6) Click Add. Select the location of your printer (USB, Network).
(7) When asked to choose driver elect Provide PPD file.
(8) Browse to /usr/share/ppd and select canonip4700.ppd.
That's all! You can print a test page now.
Thumbs up for Canon Linux support! on Ubuntu -- Visucore Blog
