Yes, migrating to Wheezy ate lots of our time. Not all of it, though, as you can see in our past monthly reports. We've migrated to Wheezy mainly because: 1. Squeeze gets no security support anymore. We'll see how the Squeeze LTS effort goes, but anyway it was confirmed way too late for us to decide to stick with Squeeze, while we had made 80-90% of the migration work already. 2. In the past few years, we've been spending way too much time backporting stuff for Squeeze, or working around limitations in packages shipped in Squeeze, that are fixed in Wheezy. I'm glad we're spending way less time on such tasks right now, and can focus on other important ones. 3. We're doing many things directly in Debian. For our efforts there to be useful in Tails, we have to upgrade Tails to the latest Debian release. 4. Wheezy gives us features that allowed improving the security of Tails. See e.g. ticket #6172 and improved hardening build flags coverage. 5. Compiling our web browser for Squeeze was getting more and more painful, and eating more and more of our time. 6. [all the reasons I'm glad I forgot.] We'll migrate to Jessie for the very same reasons. In the future, please do try harder to understand why we spend time on something, before loudly claiming that it's useless and we should really do something else *now*. Oh, and "designed to be insecure". Wow. Once you stop assuming bad faith, then we can have what I call a conversation. Take care. _______________________________________________ tails-support mailing list [email protected] https://mailman.boum.org/listinfo/tails-support To unsubscribe from this list, send an empty email to [email protected].
