When you boot your computer, unless the boot order in bios has been set otherwise, you need to interrupt the boot to instruct the computer to use whatever device or DVD drive Tails is on The key that interrupts the boot process is shown at the very first screen. Use whatever Fn key your particular brand of computer uses and you will be shown a screen with a list of bootable devices. If the flashdrive is shown (manufacturer's name) use the arrow keys to highlight it and press [Enter] to boot from that drive. IF (probably irelevant on a machine modern enough to run windows 8) you don't see the flash drive in that screen, try booting in a similar manner with a burned-to-DVD copy of the ISO file.
