I have been adding administrative boundaries (some suburban boundaries,
Local Government Areas, State Forests and National Parks) using LPI NSW
data, including areas along state and territory borders. The NSW
boundaries as shown by LPI data are close but not exactly the same as
existing boundaries already in OpenStreetMap. I have tried to leave
existing boundaries largely unchanged but I have changed a small number
of obvious discrepancies. I have just encountered NSW/ACT border and
there are more discrepancies. I was going to leave existing boundary for
ACT data and add a separate LPI-based boundary for NSW data. But, on
reflection, that seems crazy.

As far as I can ascertain, existing boundaries were derived from
Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) data which are approximations
based on data from various sources, mainly the Australian Bureau of
Statistics. The AEC itself appears to disclaim accuracy.

As far as I am aware, there are no border disputes between NSW and
adjacent jurisdictions so that I don't think there is any issue of
political or jurisdictional sensitivity. In fact, I understand most
boundaries have been ascertained by joint jurisdictional surveys etc.
In the circumstances I think the LPI NSW data is more certainly accurate
than AEC data and I would like to adjust the relevant boundaries in OSM
(mostly only very small adjustments but many of them) to reflect the LPI
NSW Base Map. And I will start with the NSW/ACT border.

Does anyone have a contrary view? If so, I would appreciate an
explanation.
