Being a regular user of OSM data and occasional editor of minor amendments, mostly in Victoria, and given the recent interest in NSW stream and river data import I am curious to know if the total import of Victorian hydro related features has ever been contemplated or undertaken.
I understand the use of Vicmap data, which includes the Vicmap Hydro theme (description below), is explicitly permitted for use by OSM under CC BY 4.0 with waiver <https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/File:Vicmap_CCBYPermission_OSM_Final_Jan2018_Ltr.pdf>. It is presumed that this is the same licence that has permitted the recent complete import into OSM of the Vicmap Address theme. It is noted that other regions in OSM, such as Switzerland, appear to have complete hydro theme coverage. It is also noted that the very limited and disjointed hydro features already in OSM Victoria may in some locations be somewhat more accurate than the Vicmap data. Although most hydro features in OSM Victoria appear to be of considerably lesser accuracy than Vicmap. To have a complete homogeneous Vicmap hydro theme would add significantly to the value of OSM as not only a street map but also as a topographic map when the land contour theme is externally referenced in.
