Ik hoorde in het radionieuws een "mapathon" vernoemen, en het viel me
daarbij op dat er van openstreetmap geen sprake was. Nu gruwel ik nogal
van newspeak, dat is een van de redenen dat ik me verre houd van
"mapathons", maar een beetje objectiviteit wil ik ook ik toch wel zien
vanwege de media.
Enerzijds zijn er de commerciëlen (kranten, VTM, RTL...), die zullen
natuurlijk de belangen verdedigen van die andere commercieel, wolven
eten geen wolven op tenslotte. Dan nog zou een "recht op antwoord"
nuttig en gepast kunnen zijn.
Nog storender vind ik het gebrek aan objectiviteit op de openbare media
(VRT, RTBF), die krijgen tenslotte handenvol gemeenschapsgeld maar
lijken mij meer en meer de commercie achterna te hollen. Alleen weet ik
niet hoe men deze openbare instellingen op hun onobjectiviteit kan
aanspreken, tenzij misschien met een parlementaire vraag? Maar dat is
misschien overkill, voor wat de meeste medeburgers als een fait divers
zullen beschouwen.
En ja, er zijn niet veel journalisten die én de bekwaamheid én de
motivatie hebben om een weldoorwrochte brok informatie aan te bieden.
Vanuit die andere hobby van me weet ik daar alles van (zie bv.

nogal op NL toegespitst) Dus inderdaad een aandachtspunt bij contacten
met de media: de termen waar het op aan komt herhalen, nog eens
vernoemen en dan nog eens grondig in de verf zetten, totdat die jongens
en meisjes er echt niet meer omheen kunnen.
