Why would anyone contribute their local mapping knowledge to the closed system 
of a billion dollar company (Google) when they can support the free and open 
mapping system of OSM instead?

I did not post the message about Google Map Maker to this list to encourage 
contributions to Google Maps - just simply to alert OSM users to the news.
