I'm using a combination of guesswork based on type - though undoubtledly
things will have changed since the 1940s-1950s - and location, local
knowledge, wikipedia and cross checking with http://www.gazetteer.co.uk/
(which I think is reasonable - I'm not copying from there, just using it as
a cross reference)
