That is to protect them against someone using their logo on merchandise (eg mugs & t-shirts) without paying them a fee, or distorting the logo to represent something similar but different, reducing the effectiveness of their logo.
In much the same way as I don't suppose Starbucks would appreciate someone taking their logo, and putting the emphasis on the second-fourth letters. But no-one would do that, would they? But simply reproducing their name or logo to represent them is just free advertising, and they'd be laughed out of court.
