While browsing in the area of Fakenham, Norfolk, UK, I came across
some entries with the source = OS Vector Map District ( look at the
woodland). As I had not heard of this before I tried to look it up on
the web and could not make sense of the OS copyright statements on
their website. Can data from OS VMD be imported into OSM and if it can
then why am I doing it the hard way ---GPS, surveys, using my eyes and
writing it down in my little black book,---??
The OS OpenData has been used - I wrote a blog about what I found in the
OS OpenData and how I used it [1] and there's a wiki page about using
the vector data [2].
I'd be wary of the quality, especially of woodland, there's odd gaps
that aren't really there, the outline seems blocky and doesn't always
reflect woodland on the ground because of new growth and newly felled
trees.
Combined with aerial images, OS OpenData can supplement surveys nicely,
but on their own there are limitations.
