Hi all.  I do like to keep an eye on changes to the map around where I live and do most of my own mapping.

A member who's joined in the last couple of months has made some win-some-lose-some changes to properties I've verified haven't altered much in many years.  For example he's (well, he's got a male username) deleting the plain polygons of previous mappers which just are tagged 'building' but are clean and accurate and drawing odd rhomboids labelled 'house' in their place. I messaged him a couple of times without response.  Since then I have seen he's done similar in locations hundreds of miles apart. I did mention how to square buildings in iD editor and would have wanted to go on and advise about other aspects of tagging where I can offer ideas.

I do all my mapping having seen and studied each change.  I do respect those who work in other ways. But it seems to me that when a new mapper changes so many places and leaves what visually looks messier to a viewer then the map isn't being improved. Some of what's been added is of good value, although I have never visited the locations, but it does seem that the mapping is very widespread (Scotland, Devon, East Anglia). It  contains odd versions of street names/addresses, perhaps related to holiday accommodation and has split up buildings which are in reality connected (according to multiple official sources I wouldn't use on the map without personal verification) .  The changeset comments are very general (I could be accused of the opposite!).

Do I mind my own business, correct those locally I can vouch for or is there some other way to reach a newbie who doesn't respond?  I am just wanting to do what's right locally, mappers in other counties may have other views...and I'm just a local mapper here!

Thanks, John.  <https://www.openstreetmap.org/user/no%20details%20provided%20here>
