Hi,
The unique PAHO identifier should make it possible to link the two models.
Another element of information is that, according to the announcement,
"Included in the more complete access is a map-based user interface
showing all known healthcare facilities in Haiti, using the Haiti Health
Facilities Master List as a basis. The "Resource Locator" and "Reports"
pages are low bandwidth resources while the map (under tab "Travax 3D")
version requires significant bandwidth, graphics capabilities, and
requires the use of Java®."
(I reported earlier to Shoreland that Travax 3D doesn't start on my
Linux system, even though I have an up to date java version.)
I think OpenStreetMap could offer an additional solution to the mapping
need, with potentially lower bandwidth and resources requirements.
Just my 0.02 €, of course.
Best regards,
Jean-Guilhem

Hi,
I've been in touch with the people at TRAVAX and we have to
distinguish between their master data set and the master data set
maintained by PAHO
(the list we've been importing so far). TRAVAX won't replace the PAHO
list, they "emphatically don't want to do so", as Bill from Shoreland
put it. The TRAVAX and the PAHO model isn't fully compatible yet (some
minor issues, missing PCODE for instance, differnt hospital type
classification). As far as OSM is concerned, we should best stick with
the PAHO list for a couple of versions. I'll continue to work on this.
Personally, I don't see value in copying real time information about
bed availability into OSM. I'm not going to be involved in it.

Karl

Hi,
Seen on
http://sites.google.com/a/netspective.org/haiti-health-facilities/home:
**** Version 4 of the master list now available in Files & Documents
<http://sites.google.com/a/netspective.org/haiti-health-facilities/files>
(released: 16 February 2010) ****
Also, real time information, including bed availability and other
information intended for people on the ground (and fed by SMS and
other ways), is going to be available shortly (at most in the next 24
hours, or so).
An example with current data can be seen at https://www.travax.com/m
(complete information form draft for a facility available on request)
The data will be available as .CSV downloads.
>From an example request for information for an emergency situation
in Jacmel I just ran across on a Haitian forum, I can tell (just in
case it would not be obvious to everybody) that if there was an
easily accessible way to display this information on a map, it could
be extremely useful.
Do you think OpenStreetMap could provide an element of answer on this
? (like Jan's map maybe, or OpenStreetBugs/OSE style (which has more
flexible popup size, maybe) ?)
Best regards,
Jean-Guilhem
