The KMZ file only has a start and finish point, and yes, some of the
zones are in areas where the speed limit changes. If the zones were
added to openstreetmaps then people could manually make a special
effort to add speed limits in these areas.

Crowd sourcing sounds like a good idea, but it would need a way for
people to mark where the speed limit sign is based. You could make
some assumptions like if on a national route then assume 100Kph, if in
town then 50Kph. However the way I currently have it is just "speed
alert" with no speed given. Most people already have speed limits from
their basic garmin display. A "Watch your speed" alert would probably
be good enough for the moment.

It would be good if a video recognition system could be made to detect
the signs and update the map, at least one per country.

I think the first step is getting the info into openstreetmap.
