==================== Hi everyone in the Japanese community TomTom is working on an automated process to add missing building heights to OpenStreetMap using Japan's Project PLATEAU open 3D city model datasets (published by MLIT under CC BY 4.0 / ODbL-compatible terms). **What we are doing** Our process uses geometric conflation to spatially match PLATEAU building footprints against existing OSM buildings, using several validation checks including overlap percentage, area ratio comparison, and geometry validity. Only buildings that match and do not already have a height=* tag will be updated. No existing tags will be overwritten, no building geometries will be modified, and no new buildings will be created. **Pilot plan** We are planning to run a small-scale test in Osaka this week using the TTmechanicalupdates OSM account. If any issues are found, we will revert the changesets. If the pilot is successful, we plan to expand the process to cover the entire Osaka area. **Next steps** Community consultation — All feedback, questions, and suggestions are very welcome. We want to make sure this process aligns with community expectations.
