Thinking out loud: A SPUI is conceptually simple from a routing perspective: from all input roads you can turn left, right or go straight. The complexity comes in drafting every travel path and slip road, as you admirably did. Could you map the logical connections simply, then map a decorative overlay of the SPUI with some form of area, which won't itself apply routing metrics? Sort of a large funny shaped connecting node?
