Hi, To my mind it’s completely optional to preserve this information unless it’s somehow still used on signage. I’ve seen old_ref=… used here in Utah and that tag seems to be in wide use: https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/keys/old_ref#map <https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/keys/old_ref#map>
