Maybe have a look at the "Tagging standards" discussion in the archives at http://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk-za/2007-October/thread.html

I personally would not tag a road as motorway if it is not really a motorway (or freeway in SA terms).

Quoting "Andrew Gillespie" <[email protected]>:

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/South_African_Tagging_Guidelines

that road is a motorway, I have driven it several times, trunk is obviously a mistake

Hi Johan

Saw something similiar a while ago. I wasn't as nice as you though, I didn't ask, I did some research and just fixed it, if "fix" is the right word. I think you are right though, makes sense. For the average user though, it doesn't seem to have much of an impact.

If someone has a guidelines URL specific to our regional Q's, I'd like to see it too :)

Hi,

does anyone know why the N2 between George and Jeffreys Bay is tagged as highway=trunk, and not highway=motorway. According to the wiki trunk roads need not be divided (the case in N2), but is typically managed by central government (should be `provincial'). But the N2 is actually a national road... not divided, I agree. Or should we not consider the route code (and ownership) as guides?

Maybe someone can shed light, please? Or just direct me to a specific URL where I can read on how we SHOULD be tagging our roads more correctly (if it indeed should be `trunk' ).

Thanks in advance.
Johan
