Thanks Eon, those are exactly the guidelines I was looking for (didn't know where to look/search for them). I'm sure we can `challenge' the guidelines, but until then... best to at least STICK to them.
Johan ... Maybe have a look at the "Tagging standards" discussion in the archives at http://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk-za/2007-October/thread.html I personally would not tag a road as motorway if it is not really a motorway (or freeway in SA terms).
