I have noticed that if you look at a map of the whole country is not
easy to see official routes because the current tagging scheme (http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/South_African_Tagging_Guidelines
) has routes tagged with different 'highway=type' tags based on the
physical nature of different sections the road. While this does
reflect reality (and is therefor technically correct), I do think that
what people actually want from maps would be better served by a scheme
that shows defined routes first (e.g. N1, R101, M6 etc.)
I have written a possible alternate tagging scheme which can be viewed
at http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Talk:South_African_Tagging_Guidelines#Proposed_alternate_tagging_scheme
and I would appreciate any comments/disscusion.
