Okay, hear you go:
Opinion title:
copyright and the distruction of society

I think that:
Copyright is, and always has been, the most dangerous set of laws passed by any government for anyone's "protection". The teeth of copyright must be pulled, and stopped from ravaging the bodies of the common person! If nothing is done, copyright will be responsible for the complete destruction of western society,
and a *lot* sooner than you think!
Because / Why:
Did you know:
-- the song “happy birthday” is still under copyright? This means that the laws against public performance of a work under copyright in most countries apply! Legally, you are required to get permission before singing the song in public! -- That many wonderful books are currently out of print, and can only be purchased used, because the holder of the copyright has no interest in trying to keep them in print? More than half of all the printed word is being held hostage, and kept away from society, by the copyright hoarders! -- that most copyrights aren’t held by artists (singers, painters, authors etc) but instead by large companies? When an artist dies, a publisher usually snaps up (or already owns) all of his copyrights, and the publisher almost never gives a cent to the artists children or grandchildren? -- that copyright does nothing to protect the interests of artists, instead protecting the interests of big business at the expense of those of society? -- that this issue has been of concern to many, for hundreds of years? Only recently has copyright become more and more eternal, but artists in the past were able to do just fine. -- that shortening copyright terms to something reasonable (like perhaps 10 years after an artists death) would drastically bring down the prices of books and media?

In order to protect our rights, and leave the creative legacy of our society open and accessible to everyone, the term of copyright must be drastically shortened!

I know you're out there. I can feel you now. I know that you're afraid. You're
afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come
here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's
going to begin. I'm going to hang up this phone and then I'm going to show
these people what you don't want them to see. I'm going to show them a world
without you, a world without rules and controls, without borders or boundaries,
a world where anything is possible. Where we go from there is a choice I leave
to you. - Neo, The Matrix
