you could go and do what i've done. I got a mda vario mark 2 because i wanted a pda and a phone, it functions pritty well as phone, but not great. Anyway, to my point. You could install pockit hal on it. It comes with pockit word and xl and for what ever reason powerpoint. But yeah, it's nice. I can read ooks on the go with ophius at 700 and i like it a lot!

Nope, you can't just load a text file into Rockbox and read it yet.
They are working on it, not with Eloquence speech but they are doing
something. You could get something like the Motorola Q which I have.
It comes with the extended as well as regular battery, so you can get
about 5 days of use, that may drop to 2 or 3 if you read stuff on the
extended battery with MobileSpeak Smartphone.
That again doesn't run Eloquence at this time, the only screenreader
for phones that does is Talks. That runs on Symbian, and I have no
knowledge of battery runtimes with that.
Your only other option is to use either Kurzweil or OpenBook to
convert text to mp3 files. Apparently the Eloquence that comes with
Window Eyes is an unlocked copy so if you have that you can use Eloq
in your mp3 files, as long as JFW isn't on the same system.
