Sorry, meant to comment on the following:

charEvaluate = mid(D("Header"),4,1)  '"R" or "0" or "E"

An easier way might be to use instr's cousin, mid.

If you are using rules based scripting using an excel spreadsheet (with
headers), you can set up steps something along the lines of the
following (assuming D("Header") is the field you are evaluating and you
are evaluating the 4th position in the string for your needed values):

Step|Connect|

  ... blah blah blah ...

Step|Login|

  ... blah blah blah ...

Step|Navigate|

  ... blah blah blah (navigate to your procedure) ...

Step|CheckDB|

 Rule||

  charEvaluate = mid(D("Header"),4,1)  "R" or "0" or "E"

  IF charEvaluate = "R" Or charEvaluate = "0" or charEvaluate = "E" Then

   Step = "PARAMETERS"

   Exit Sub

  Else

   Step = "NEXTDB"

   Exit Sub

  End If

Step|Parameters|

  ... blah blah blah (data entry here)

Step|File|

  ... blah blah file changes blah ...

Step|NextDB|

 Rule||CheckDB

  D.Next_

You script will go to your parameters step when it finds an R, 0, or E
record, but will just go to the next record if it doesn't. It goes VERY
fast.

I script 5k + payroll stuff using this type of setup and our timeouts
are pretty strict.

I'll have to research instr. Being a useless noob when it comes to
programming there is much I have learn.

Is there something wrong with your instr functionality?

Subject: [talkbws] Datastation Record Search

Anyone know if there is a FASTER way to search through dataStation
Records? If I have 700 records, but only 200 of them match my criteria
is there a way to jump from matching record to matching record? Or do I
need to figure out a VB solution to this? Criteria would always be
###R, ###0, or ###E for a partial match. Right now line by line
searching using steps is working, but I always run the risk of my
meditech screen timing out and dropping back a screen (or 2). If
possible I'd rather just jump around (using an Array if needed);
D.Recored = 10, D.Record = 171, D.Record = 245, etc,,,

Thanks.
