Normally I compile everything in Excel but the time allotted for this
particular job is pretty short. In the next couple weeks I'll be focusing on
an SQL connection so I don't have to run 2 or 3 reports to get all the data on
one mnemonic and can access the info right in DR and skip the excel portion.
To shorten my search times for the current job I set D.Record = D.Record - 20
(With everything in alphabetic order there is no reason to start over each
time) and to save searching all the way to the end of the record set I
converted to ASCII and exited the routine when the searched values were greater
than the source value.
Like
Do
F("DAsc") = Asc(Left$(D("1"),1))
F("D1Acs") = Asc(Left$(D1("1"),1))
If F("DAsc") > F("D1Asc") then
execute something
end if.
Loop
I couldn't get things to function in my Do/Loop by using
Loop until Asc(Left$(D1("1"),1)) > F("DAsc")
Must have been missing something. But figuring out the SQL connection should
eliminate most of this type of programming.

I use Monarch called from a BWS script to do this kind of "pre-processing". I
have it export a file that I then use in datastation. This way all of the
"external" work is done before ever connecting to Meditech.

Subject: [talkbws] Search DataStation
I'm sure I've asked this before, but not finding anything, not recalling
anything.
Is there a way to search records in the datastation without hitting every
record? I've got one datastation (D) with 5000+ records and another (D1) with
8400 records. I need to check D against D1. Currently I'm stepping through
each record via Boston. I can do the same thing faster in VB, but is there a
"Faster" way? I don't want to have Meditech time out on me while the
datastations are being searched.
Thanks.
