He was asking about changing his .bds file. I don’t think he wants to do that.

Right. The config file I was referring to was my own .txt file which is in
addition to the .bds one. I use a text file class to write and read from text
files. I can share it if you want. If you don’t want to hassle with that I
think another option is that you could always use data station to write to a
.xls file to keep track of the record or just update the script manually.

I think he’s saying that if you put d.record = xx in the script, it will set
the record. I was always advised not to modify the config file directly.

That’s sounds like what I’m looking for. Where in the config file does the
record number go?

Would it just be [record#xxx] like in config example below?

[general]

filetype=1

delimiter=,

takelabels=1

filetime=7/22/2010 6:00:36 AM

closed=7/22/2010 6:46:52 AM

[names]

ACCTNUMBER=1

NAME=2

SERVICEDATE=3

[fields]

[report]

[record#xxx]

If you are running large files and don’t want to wait for it to go through all
the completed records you can set a start record with D.Record = <some number>.
I’ve also in the past had my script write to a config file that my script would
read at initialization upon restarting to start at the record I left off at.

If the intent is to not reprocess records …

I use the direct update to indicated the date and time that the record was
processed (and an error message if it couldn’t be processed).

When I read the file I’ll check to see if the update column contains a “:”. If
it does I know it’s already been processed and D.Next_ until I get to where the
process left off.

If InStr(1, Trim(D(F("ScriptNote"), True)), ":") = 0 Then

thanx, sherry

Greetings,

No, not really. Our model is to be non-invasive to the file.

If the file is an excel spreadsheet and you had opened it with direct update
set - then you could set the value of each field = “”

The setting would only “take” after the spreadsheet is closed unless you use:

D.T.Appl.Save after you do d.Next_

You can move the whole file to another directory when done using the D.Archive
(dir) command

Regards,

Thom

Is there anyway to delete a record from the Datastation file once it has been
completed?

I’m aware of setting the status to complete or done by using (D("Status") =
"Complete”, but I’d like to go further and actually delete the record once it
has been completed.

Thanks in advance!

Paul
