Thom,

I've always liked forums for the reasons you mention.  If you/Shawn/whoever wished to address someone directly, you could email them and thus make it quicker.  Otherwise, the forum would likely work well.  (If I felt I wanted immediate assistance, I'd call.)

Also, I've noticed the "confidentiality" notices from all of our respective businesses.  Eliminating the email version could potentially save you (and everyone receiving these emails) server space.

Subject: [Talk] Forum's vs Listserv's

Greetings,

Wanted to pose a question to the group – we are evaluating putting up a forum in the customer area of our website as potential alternative to the Talk Listserv – the archives would be updated into the forum for – most likely using a scriptJ

But before we do anything - we’d like to know what you all think.

The advantages of a forum are that it’s much easier to search, to scan through and follow threads and you don’t get the “out of office replies” when you post on a holiday.

The biggest disadvantage in my mind is that it is not as “immediate” to post, you have to login to a website to do it.

So what are your thoughts?

Regards,

Thom
