DEC actually provided lots of support to Linux.
Very early on there were ports of a 64 bit version of Linux to the Alpha processors.
There was also a tiny variant that was the boot bios.
Possibly the biggest booster of Linux in DEC was Jon Hall https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Hall_(programmer)

We had a bunch of Alpha machines and I was sad to see them go.
