Windows live mail also does it, sometimes. Pam.

Actually, I think Jo wants to compact messages to free up hard drive space.
This option is available in Outlook Express and Windows Mail. I don't have
Outlook 10 on this computer, so I can't help with that application.

If I understand what this person wants is actually overwriting the Emails on the HD so they can't be recovered. I know that Ccleaner has that ability to write data on all unused parts of the hard drive. It will take some time and I don't know if I would trust it not to screw up things you don't want destroyed. I am sure there are other programs that will do the same. Of course after deleting something over time new data would be written over it with normal operation.

Hi, I'm using Outlook 2010 and just to clarify, the emails are no longer in
the deleted items folder. I thought there was a way to remove them from
the hard drive where they get buried.

Subject: I want to get rid of old deleted emails,

Hi, I have old emails that really haven't been permanently deleted from my
ssd Windows 7 64-bit computer. There used to be a way to do this but I
don't remember it. I have searched online for help and I have performed
disk clean-ups each month. Perhaps some just drift away as I add to the
deleted pile but I'd like some feedback, please.
Using WE 9 on a frosty day!
