On my HP laptop, you have to hold down the FN wile pressing one of the function keys if you want the standard F keys in windows. The function keys placed there by the maker will probably be different from maker to maker. For example, to raise and low the volume on my HP laptop it's F9 to lower the volume and F10 to raise the volume. The one that gave me fits was the F12 key. Unknown to me at the time, pressing F12 toggles WI-FI on and off. According to the manual, toggling off the WI-FI radio when not needed saves battery power. This laptop has a 9 cell battery which delivers up to 10 hours under a mixed load of programs and usages.Your manufacturer should list their functions of the F keys. I wrote them down in Braille including the one that rotates the picture on the 17.3 inch screen. I'm still scratching my head as to why anybody would want to do that on a laptop. My screen is also full HD! Now there's another great advantage for the blind.

Subject: function f1 through f12

I bought a Lenovo laptop with the extended keyboardd and found out some of
the functions F1 through f12 do stuff one would not be aware of untill it's
to late. For instance, f2 and 3 rise and lower sound volume. F6 turns off
the touch screen. Does anyone know if there is a by-pass key so normal
windows functions can be performed? Don't get this confused withthe the
by-pass key for wineyes functions.
