Hi Neville, With any document open, just open any other document use File open or File Recent. Once more than one document is open, you use Alt-tab to switch between them since they open in completely separate windows, not document windows within a unified Word window.

With Word 2003, it is possible to load more than one file into memory and then access any file as required. This is great for moving data from one file to another. It is possible to load more than one file into Word 2013 but try as I might,there does not seem to be a way of accessing these other loaded files. One can be accessed but not the others.
