Hi, I'd like to answer the origional posters question which will help
those of you who don't want that notificiation icon in your system
tray about Windows 10 if you have no interest at all in upgrading.
Also, I would recommend a cchange in your Windows update settings.
Set it to download updates but let you choose when to isntall them.
Otherwise updates like this one will just install no matter what you do.
Plus, this update is annoying, because Microsoft chose to make it an
"important" update.
But in my opinion, it's not so necessary.
Windows 7 extended support continues until sometime in 2020
anyways, and as for Windows 8 or 8.1 I have no idea when those support
end dates are.
So, let's go ahead and I'll go in to the technical details of what you
need to know.
1.
The update that was installed on either your Windows 7, 8, or 8.1
computers so long as you are running the very latest updates, is
update (KB3035583)
You'll need to go in to Windows update, find the list of installed
updates, look for the update that says (KB3033583) in it's name and
then uninstall it.
In addition, to prevent it from being autoinstalled again, it will
need to be hidden the next time you find it in your update list.
A computer reboot is required after uninstalling the update.
Again, the update to watch out for is (KB3033583)
And as far as I know, from articles I've read regardless of if you
have a 32-bit or 64-bit copy of Windows this is the update that you'll
want to remove and is responsible for installing the Windows 10
notification in to your system tray.
So yes, it is possible to remove the notification icon and not have it
show up again, but I would strongly recommend you change your Windows
update settings to let you choose to install downloaded updates
yourself.
That way you can go through the list and see what you'd like.
I hope this helps.
