You can reserve your copy and it is part of the Windows update but you do
have the choice of when and if you want to install. You can read the FAQs
and get the correct answer there.

No, it doesn't work that way. It will be a windows update, and if you
have it reserved, it will download and install with all your other
updates.

Me personally, I am going to leave this Windows 8.1 64 bit laptop alone
but will reserve my copy anyway. I hope I can download it as an image
then use that in a virtual machine.
