I find that the date pickers are the most challenging on airline and hotel sites. Since I have a little vision, I can't fairly answer which sites work best, since I sometimes am able to leverage my bit of vision, but not always. I have used Orbitx for price shopping, but tend to go to the airlines direct site to see if the rates are better. With some airlines, like Frontier, you get better prices and benefits by booking on their website, but I've had issues. I have also found it helpful to call the airlines. If you tell them you are blind and are having difficulty with their site, they will often waive the fee for booking at telephone reservation. I've definitely used this with Frontier, although not since it became a bare bones airline. I also recall being really, really impressed with the service I got calling the Southwest agents, but I do not recall if she was able to give me the web only rates on the phone or whether I was able to get my husband to help me book the flight online and the representative just helped me do some other changes.
I was trying to use the Choice Hotels site on Friday to book a hotel. While the interface seems really simple, I found I was unable to get the date selection to work and could not type in the date. I think I had better luck with Hotels.com. One thing to note about Hotels.com that I just learned is that the fine print says your reservation is guaranteed, but not your room type. One customer was complaining that she ended up with a smoking room and another said she'd asked for 2 queen beds and got one king instead. That concerned me, which is why I tried to go book the hotel directly and was taken to the Choice hotels site. Today I'm calling the hotel directly to see if I can get the same rate over the phone that I saw on hotels.com. -----Original Message----- From: Talk [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Sue J Ward via Talk Sent: Sunday, June 21, 2015 5:18 PM To: Window-Eyes Discussion List Subject: dealing with airline websites with window eyes Hello. I was wondering what are the best websites to use with window eyes when it comes to booking a flight or hotel, cause for example the southwest.com website is confusing whether you use: chrome, IE, or FF. I seem to find whenever I type inthe stuff in the edit boxes, when I either tab or shift tab it jumps around the page a lot and does not keep the info that I type in the boxes and even with the enhance auto load app it still does not help. In fact I tried the mobile site, I guess it is a blank page. Is there a way around this? Was wondering what are the best travel sites to use with window eyes as of today, cause I know access world did a segment on that which I guess it was at least ten years ago, so any update info would be excellent. You figure by now all of the stuff would all be fixed up so it would be working with window eyes. I even took the screen reader survey hope that it could be fixed up so working with the web would be even better now. I guess it is a wo rking progress. So any info would be excellent. Thank you. ____________________________________________________________ Old School Yearbook Pics View Class Yearbooks Online Free. Search by School & Year.
