Thanks, that seems to have worked. Perhaps I should ask this next
question in a separate thread, but sometimes, when I am composing an
email, and I'm rereading the email, arrowing though the text, WE will
read letters which are not there. It might repeat a letter, and when I
try to delete the "extra letter," I find that I never typed an extra
letter, rather it was WE repeating a letter. This is achronic problem
for me which has started happening again.

Try this, gents.

Shift tab to the tab controls and right arrow to the content tab.
Tab to the first settings button. Typical of Microsoft, this button is only
labeled as settings, but the name above it if you route the mouse there is
autocomplete.
When this settings page opens, you might be tempted to uncheck the first box
(Use autocomplete in the address bar), tab to OK and press Enter. But wait.
The other check boxes are:
Use autocomplete for Browsing history.
Use autocomplete for favorites.
Use autocomplete for use windows search for better results.
Use autocomplete for suggesting URLs.
If you uncheck the use autocomplete for address bar check box first, the
above list of check boxes become disabled in whatever checked state they are
in. So, the IE feature that is causing the problem might still be active. I
haven't experimented, I just unchecked them all, and, I can backspace
without double speech. <shrug>.

How can you disable auto-suggest?

I think it has something to do with the automatic completing of web
addresses as you type. Or the auto suggest stuff. I have disabled all that
junk and I can backspace in the IE address bar without double speech.

Subject: WE & typing in the address bar in IE
I had this problem previously in Windows-7 and earlier versions of WE &
IE. When I type a URL in the address bar, and I make a mistake, I use
the backspace key to erase the error. However, WE seems to be reading
the letters twice. For example, if I type gwmicro.com, then decide to
back space over each letter, it might say MMOOCC instead of mOC. Is
this a WE problem or an IE problem?
Nick
