Hey Neville, how disappointing indeed. I guess if Mozilla is going to play it this way, guess we'll just have to suck it up as per usual.

I sure wish I knew just what technologically revolutionary act was accomplished through this interface improvement to the program that it would make it necessary to completely make using the pads absolutely impossible. Oh, I'm sure that it wasn't their first intention to make use by speech users so difficult, but you would think that some kind and considerate soul within that open source community would be interested in remedying the situation. But then again, maybe the accomplishment verses the loss was actually worth it.

Oh well, guess we blind users will just have to develop our own client <smile>.

Sorry to cop an attitude, but this just seems to be so unnecessary, and to go to the point of not letting you opt out of updating to boot.

Anyway, I'm done,

Larry

Hi Larry,

After making sure all necessary boxes were checked or unchecked and Thunderbird 31.7 named changed in order to prevent Thunderbirdfrom updating to 38.1,the update still happened.

So now the system is using Tbird 38.1 which is much to my annoyance but it appears that there is nothing which can be done to avoid the upgrade.

As for obtaining Thunderbird version 31.7 or any old version, do a Google search for something like, download old Thunderbird versions. All previous Thunderbird versions will be listed.

Neville,

Could you please tell me just where I could go to get a copy of 31.7? I
have looked all around, and can't find a place for direct download of
this particular version. I'd sure like to give your solution a try.

Thunderbird has all in all been a very good substitute for my old
Eudora, though the spell checker doesn't give me a lot of confidence at
times. And of course, I really don't like not being able to use the key
pad.

Hi,
Using W7 HP 32, latest WE and now Tbird 31.7

Thanks to the list member who suggested renaming the main Thunderbird
file in order to stop the automatic updating.

Thunderbird 31.7, which allows mouse key access to the screen, has
been reinstalled once again.

Thunderbird.exe has been renamed to Thunderbird 317.exeand Tools,
Options, Advanced, update was inspected in order to determine whether
the programme was still being told not to update.

The reinstallation of 31.7 and file renaming was done while not
connected to the net so no automatic updating could take place until
the renaming was completed. A new Desktop shortcut was made to
reflect the new filename.

Version 31.7 was used to write this message.

Now I'll just have to wait for a few days to see if Thunderbird
version 38.1 installs itself once again.

Cheers
Neville.
