Not if you have an OEM version it seems. My laptop came with Windows 8.1 64 bit OEM. I did the upgrade today, and now it won't activate. Not a big deal, as thanks to an article I found on Google I got my product key which have saved as a text document. The next step would be to presumably download the ISO which I also have, either mount that or burn to DVD/USB and perform an in-place upgrade. Long winded but I'm sure it can be done.
