As per Doug's previous message on this topic, please ensure you're working with
accurate facts rather than vague suppositions. Yes, there is some minimal, and
I stress MINIMAL, accessibility support in Edge that was added quite literally
at the last minute before Windows 10 went to RTM. Even so, there are huge holes
that Microsoft must address in their Edge APIs before any AT vendor can truly
support it. Because Microsoft themselves have openly admitted that they dropped
the ball here, and since we know they will be pushing out changes to Edge over
the coming months to address its accessibility shortcomings, there is no
practical value in adding support in Window-Eyes or any other product until
Edge has what we need to make it accessible. Once that support is there, I
guarantee we will add what is needed in Window-Eyes to make it work.
In the mean time, you have three other perfectly viable browsers from which to
choose, Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome. Furthermore, Internet Explorer
is still included with Windows 10, and changing your default browser is
extremely simple. Permit me to quote from the Window-Eyes 9.2 readme:
-- The Microsoft Edge Browser
Microsoft Edge is a new web browser that ships with Windows 10. Due to
accessibility issues with Edge, Microsoft recommends to "Set your default web
browser to Internet Explorer for a more accessible web browsing experience."
Change your default browser by doing the following:
1. Press the Windows key to open the Start Menu.
2. Type "default browser" into the "Search" box.
3. A result labeled, "Change Default Web Browser" should appear. If not,
use the Up and Down Arrow keys to locate it, followed by Enter to open the
default browser settings screen.
4. Your focus will next land on the "Default Browser" button. If Edge is
your default browser, then press Enter. Otherwise, press Alt-F4 to close the
settings window.
5. You will next be placed in a group of buttons representing the browsers
currently installed on your computer. Tab until you hear, "Internet Explorer,"
and press Enter.
6. Press Alt-F4 to close the settings screen.
I hope this is helpful.
Regards,
Steve

I think his point is more that someone in the open source community actually
has gone amd got some aspects of edge working if only in a very limited way.
Yet paid manufacturers have not yet done this.

Gary,
Before starting untrue rumors, please make sure you have the facts
correct. No screen reader makes Edge usable. NVDA is saying the following:
Windows 10 introduces a new web browser and browsing engine called
Microsoft Edge. Some experimental support is available in NVDA "master"
snapshots and will be included in NVDA 2015.3, but there are major
problems and this is far from ready for everyday web browsing. These
issues are due to deficiencies in Edge's accessibility support. We are
working with Microsoft to ensure that these issues are rectified in
future Windows updates.
So I wouldn't accept that as a statement saying Edge is working.
