It's not that Apple perceives us as a market. They view us as a good public relations tool. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's basically the same reasons corporations engage in philanthropic activities.

You say, "so what" and yet Apple has managed access very well in comparison with Microsoft over the past few years. We may be a small part of the market. It does my heart good to know Apple and Steve J. recognizes us as a market. Gradually more and more blind people are abandoning Windows for IOS. Of course, that may not matter to anybody but the blind individual.
Screen Reader manufacturers probably care though.
So that is so what.

I know all of us here are Blind, and we tend to think of things from
the Blind Prospective. All of us are very aware of all the extra things
we all need to do in order to live the typical normal life.

Programmers, in most Companies, probably are not even aware Blind people
use computers, let alone use what ever Software their company produces.
And if these programmers are aware, they tend to be resistant to adding
the extra code to their programs in order to make them Screen Reader
Friendly.

To them adding this extra code is just more work, and they probably will
not be given extra time to insert the extra code.
Sure, there are laws in place that are to force companies to make their
products Accessible. Big Deal. So what. There is a difference between
a law on the books and a law that is enforced.

So the be outraged about the new Edge Browser not accessible is
understandable, and yet, So What?

The numbers of Blind computer users are very small when compared to the
typical computer user that happens to be sighted.

Speedily getting a product done, and into the Market is what most
Companies find to be important. Expecting a Company to make their
product accessible in their first release, is probably wasted wishing on
your part. Be thankful for what we do have, and that some of these
Companies will add the extra code needed, even if it has to be 6 months
after the release of the first edition.

the priority is to get the main software done and working well enough
for the General public, and all others come after that. We Blind are
in the group known as "All Others".

If all of you decide to have a Fit and Hold your Breath until you turn
Blue, and then if you all choose to never buy another Microsoft product
ever again, Microsoft will not notice a drop in their Bottom line.

And it is not that they do not care, it is just that there is a Higher
Priority on getting their programs done for their main market, which are
the Sighted users. And once that goal is accomplished, then we Blind
might see some effort to make something work with a Screen Reader.
