Andy,
Can you please provide a specific example of where this is happening? The last
example you and I discussed privately turned out to work fine with Window-Eyes
once I discovered how to work around the poorly designed login process. In this
particular case, the modal login dialog that popped up on the screen was
actually positioned at the very end of the web page's Document Object Model.
So, in essence the modal dialog was put at the very end of the page even though
visually it looked like it was active and had focus. I see this type of
implementation used all the time and it can be very tricky to deal with. The
good news is that there are now techniques that web developers can use to make
these dynamic changes user friendly for everyone. For example, using ARIA and
JavaScript, you can do some pretty amazing stuff that both looks stunning and
is fully accessible. Check out the login process on Twitter. If you activate
the Login link, you get a similar looking popup modal login d
ialog. But, under the hood it is well designed which makes it accessible and
user friendly. So, I want to encourage everyone to report the problems you find
to the website owners and advocate for accessibility. If we don't help educate
developers and others involved with creating web content, change will be slow
or non-existent.
Thanks,
Marc

Is it possible that there could be something in the IE settings, such as
security settings that could account for the issue of WE not seeing
certain items on the screen when the page changes?

Sure, you might have to use workarounds and advanced techniques to be
successful on poorly designed web pages. But, I still stand behind the
fact that the screen redraw does nothing when on the web using
Window-Eyes 9.0 or higher. That was the key point I was trying to make.

this is not always true.
it depends on the programmer. i have gone to many web pages that open a
text box or what ever you call it and w e 9.2 will not read it until i
turn browse mode off and back on. then i can read what is on the screen.
with some web pages like question and answer sites i can click on the
question because it is a link. the page will scrole to the bottom of the
page where the answer is suppose to be. w e will not read it and if i
try to arrow down the text you are put back on the top of the page
again.
i have some site so i can tell when something changes on the screen.

The redraw screen hot key (Insert-Backslash) is no longer needed on the
web if you are using Window-Eyes 9.0 or newer. This feature on the web
only worked in older versions of Window-Eyes that use a static browse
mode buffer. Since Window-Eyes now interacts with the web page in real
time and doesn't use a static buffer, the dynamic content will be
available as soon as it is added to the page.

I have experienced this at times. You can try hitting INSERT-BACKSLASH.
This is the command to redraw the screen. I am referring to the INSERT
key on the numpad.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] WE not announcing changes to web page

Hello,

I am using WE 9.2 with Windows 7. There is a web site I must use for
work in which WE does not announce changes to the page when I activate
its controls.
For example, when I press benterb on a bclickableb,
WE does not indicate that anything has changed. The only way I knew that
it had was that a sighted person told me that it had. Otherwise, I would
have thought the control wasnbt working. What settings do I have to
change in WE to get it to announce these changes?

Thank you,

Jan
