window eyes focus has always been in the task list when you boot the computer.
windows 10 is suppose to boot to the desktop. the start screen is closed by
default.
but focus is in the task list or what ever its called. so you have to tab back
to the desktop or click on show desktop or windows d to put focus on the
desktop after it boots.
windows 8 boots to the start screen unless you change the settings. i think
this is in the charms menu. 10 does not have the charms menu.

Hi Bud,
I'm certainly no authority of any kind on Windows 10.
All I can assume is that it is normal for Windows 10 to bring you to some
focus after you log in, and after all the normal boot process transpires,
speech should stop and you would be focused on some control somewhere.
At that point, I assume that you could just use the Windows-M key
combination and focus should land on the icons on your desktop.
Now, if this doesn't happen, then it makes sense to me that some kind of
alternate menu system of some kind was installed and that the above key
combination has been set to do something else.
What that could be, I really can't say, and I am sorry. smile
Take care,
Rod

Hi, and this is also to Rod. I can just hear you guys saying"Oh no,
is
he here again!" Seriously, I do appreciate your patience and interest.
This doesn't boot to the desk top. I don't know if it's supposed to
but it never has. I would get to it from file manager which has now
disappeared along with several things that were on whatever you call it
where it goes to at start. I can get to the desktop by typing it in
Cortana. The desktop has 20 items but none of them are this pc. I can
do windows x and get to the various disks as you said but don't know how
I would get it on the desktop. I should've taken this off line but
wanted Rod to see it also. So this whole setup seems to be kind of
weird. I'll keep checking around and get it figured out eventually I think.
Thanks again

windows e will open the list of drives when focus is on the desktop.
if this pc icon is not on the desktop then
open the start screen and search for icons. then look for show or hide
common icons , i think this is what its called you can put this pc
,which is the same as the computer icon back on the desktop.

Another way to find the drives is by hitting Windows key X and then
downarrow to disk management. That will list all available drives on
the computer.

Thanks to all of you who responded to my query about finding drive e,
the usb when I plug in a cartridge. Actually none of the suggestions
worked on my machine here. However, I finally did find it. It was
buried deep in recently added apps. Boy, this windows 10 is a
challenge. Thanks again to all of you.
