Exactly also had a dell which I bought in 2008 and the only thing that went out on me was the keyboard which I blew with a can of air. But its still running like a tank its was the 4 Generation intel processor I 5 with 2.4 ghz and 6GB of ram 128GB ssd hard drive and all the bells and whistles which wer hot at that time. at that time I did not have the cash to get a 8GB version. So now I have the cash an think of looking at another dell . what is the best one to get under a $1000 that has an I 5 or i7 with touch screen 8 or 16 GB of ram 256 or 384 SSD hard drive, good battery life I am looking at 7 to 12 hours of battery use out of a 15 inch screen an the keyboard needs to have a numeric keypad as my profession dictates it. So I will hear on suggestions.

I'm on my second Dell laptop, which I bought in April of 2014. I just got the microphone replaced, (having bought premium support), and it wasn't nearly the hassle I thought it would be to get them to send someone out). The previous Dell laptop, I bought in July 2008, and it still works. I used it nearly every day for three months short of six years, and never had to get it serviced. So, I guess you could say that I've been very happy with Dell laptops for the last over seven years. For instance, I won't touch a Dell laptop with a ten-foot pole! I don't like proprietary stuff too much. I do like Toshiba, Sony (this one can be pricey because of its name), Asus and Acer. I don't like HP and I frankly believe that the strength of the company is in the production of printers! I do have a three-year-old Sony laptop which runs Windows7 64Bit Professional; It is a refurbished one, the last one on display when I picked it up. As such, I was able to negotiate my own price down to what I felt comfortable with before making the purchase. As a general rule, I don't buy brand-new laptops; I ask for refurbished ones, carefully examine the specs and even play with the machine before making a decision. I don't buy new because they go obsolete so fast! Moreover, the refurbished ones I buy had been previously leased out to corporations that were just returning them for upgrades. Their hard drives are reformatted, new OS installed, and then sold for a lot less after the seller has made tons of pennies from the lease.
