Jonathan, I am unfamiliar with the echo that you mention. What is it please?
After you make a preset in Winamp by using the ctrl-shift keys along
with a particular number on the top row of the keyboard, you can use
that number to go directly to any audio stream. Kind of like using the
buttons on a radio. It is really one of the cool things about the Winamp
app, or as we used to call them "script."
Anyway, if you could please tell me a bit more about this possible
conflict, I certainly would appreciate it.

save and keep settings for speaking characters when typing.
It looks as if I have traced the problem to the use of Winamp presets which use

characters continued to work for hours after saving the settings. Then I
managed to undo all of that by simply using one preset within Winamp. After I
lost my characters, I went directly to the keyboard settings, and did my due

presets again to switch audio streams. This really seems to be the source of
the problem.
Does anybody have any ideas outside of simply not using the presets to solve
this problem, hopefully once and for all?
BTW, the above preset feature is a function of the Winamp app.
