Alan,
You can open File Explorer with Windows-E, or, Windows-R (run dialog),
type C: and hit ENTER. When you do so nothing will be selected. This is
what you want. So do not touch any arrow keys.
Open the context menu with either the Application key or Shift-F10.
Arrow down to the View pull down menu and right arrow to open it. List
will be a check box you can activate with ENTER.
