Hi Tony, I entirely agree with you: I'm struggling with it myself.
As for "selected/unselected", I understand that as you arrow up and down, although you can hear items in the menu being spoken, they are not automatically selected as it would have been before. You need to press enter on an item to select it and only then do you have choices to tab along. So select an item in the menu, press enter, and now as you press tab, you will see the sub-items of the item you have selected. I am still very shaky in the start menu and would appreciate some tips as well.
