I'm curious to know why some links behave like this for me in Firefox, and not others.
One example of this kind of link is found at http://ocado.com A UK supermarket site. Wade through all the rubbish at the top of the page until you get to the "log in" link. For me, this link does nothing when I press enter on it, but it works in IE.
