For me, I use QRead to open PDF files. It seems to work well and it will remember the position of the file when you reopen it.

Control pageup will take you to the previous page. I realize circumstances and personal preferences are different. Dealing with a 67 page PDF document would drive me nuts. I just go ahead and save it to text and read it in word. I can start and stop easier and create a bookmark to use so I do not need to either read the entire document or go through a big task of finding my previous spot. I know you can note the PDF page number and go directly to it. Like I said this is just an idea if it fits for you.
