In addition to E-Speak, just as with NVDA, you could run the Windows Server
Speech Platform. The only problem with that and some of the SAPI
synthesizers is that their responsiveness for character echo is lacking.

also check which w e synth you are useing. i think e speak is the only free
synth supplied with the free w e version. if you are not useing a paid
version
w e will run in demo mode until you switch synthisizers.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but make sure you run ne of the
office programs like word and make sure you are signed into your office
account and you should be all set. There is also a tole in the we
opsions menu that can be ran to fix this.
Just upgraded my laptop to win 10 and it works just fine .
